Mavs Win Season Opener

OMAHA, Neb.--Junior Molly Herzberg scored 34 seconds into the game to lead the Mavs to a 2-0 win in their season opener. Jamie Venhaus added the second goal late in the second half to secure the Maverick win over Minnesota-Duluth in front of 207 fans Friday evening at The Soccer Field at Ak-Sar-Ben.
Freshman Haley Fries took ten shots in her debut, putting four on goal, but could not find the back of the net. She did assist in the Venhaus goal with Junior Brytten Kraft, and Ashley Grace assisted on the Herzberg goal.
Sophomore Amy Price played all 90 minutes in goal, made three saves, and got her first shutout after assisting in 13 last year. Bulldog goalkeeper Mira Muikku made 12 saves in 90 minutes.
The Mavs travel to Wayne State for a 1 p.m. game Saturday. They won't return home until September 20 when they play Washburn.
