Mavericks Head Home for 75th Victory

A win in any of this weekend's two games would give Coach Don Klosterman and his top-ranked Mavs their 75th victory in just their fifth season. Two young teams the Mavericks have never faced before will attempt to keep UNO away from that milestone. Saturday the Mavs will face Washburn and Sunday they will face Emporia State at the Soccer Field at Ak-Sar-Ben. Both contests begin at 1 p.m.
UNO (6-0-0) allowed its first goal of the season last Saturday against Southwest Baptist after going 487 minutes and 12 seconds without allowing a goal. SBU's early goal also put the Mavs down for the first time all year.
About the Lady Blues and Hornets
Washburn University is 2-4 in its inaugural season. With mostly freshmen, just one junior and one sophomore, the Lady Blues are led in scoring by freshman Melisa Zadina. Her eight points (3 goals, 2 assists) are followed by fellow freshman Megan Horvath's seven (3 goals, 1 assist). Head Coach Tim Collins and his squad were picked last in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association.
Emporia State, 1-2-0, picked up its first win last Saturday against Wayne State. Sophomore Brandi Booth leads the Hornets with five of their seven goals and junior Melissa Boeckel has another and the remaining one was a team goal. Coach Ivan Huntoon, in his second season, went 10-10 last year in ESU's first season and was picked to finish fourth in the MIAA.
Washburn and Emporia will meet on Wednesday then both teams will meet the Mavs for the first time in history this weekend.

UNO will travel to D I opponent Drake Sept. 26 then will host fourth-ranked Metro State the following day for four straight first-time meetings.
