MANKATO, MIN.---UNO can breathe a short sigh of relief. The Mavericks lengthened their unbeaten streak to 12-games with a 4-1 win over Minnesota State, Mankato, but a big test is to follow Sunday when they face North Central Conference unbeaten South Dakota.
Mankato struck early at 16:59 as Kathleen Murphy took a rebound off the crossbar and sent it in for the first tally. With the Mankato score, it marked the first time this season an opponent scored first in a UNO win.
UNO did not let Mankato hold onto its early lead, tying the score at 1 at 21:04 with Brandie Beale scoring her ninth goal of the season. The 1-1 tie stood until just over ten minutes into the second period when Anne Willrett scored her 13th goal of the year to give UNO the 2-1 lead. Five minutes later, defender Meghan Pile headed a corner kick from Beth McGill into the net. To seal the victory, Pile added her second goal of the game, fourth on the season on a quick corner kick from Amber Richardson to Brandie Beale.
Offensively, UNO outshot Mankato 19-13, including a 13-5 shots-on-goal differential.
Goalie Amy Price played all 90 minutes between the posts making four saves and allowing the lone Mankato goal.
UNO is 13-2-1 overall and 3-0 in the North Central Conference as they travel to Vermillion, S.D. for a Sunday Oct. 17th showdown with conference unbeaten South Dakota.
