Johnson Named NCC Setter of the Week

Sioux Falls, S.D. -- In an announcement by the league office in Sioux Falls, junior setter Christie Johnson (Lincoln, Neb.) has been named the North Central Conference setter of the week for the week ending Aug. 29.
Johnson, who guided the Mavericks to a 4-1 record at the North Alabama Classic including wins over No. 10 Grand Valley State and No. 22 Pittsburg State, was named to the all-tournament team along with fellow Maverick Amy McLeay, the tournament's MVP.
Johnson averaged 11.30 assists, 1.40 digs and 0.45 services aces per game in the Mavericks' five tournament matches. In the Mavericks victory over Pittsburg State, Johnson posted a 69 assists and six kills, both career highs.
The Mavericks, currently 4-1 on the season, will travel to California this week for three matches including a showdown at No. 7-ranked Cal State-San Bernardino, a 2003 NCAA II semifinalist.
Nebraska-Omaha begins the week with a 2 p.m. match on Thursday, Sept. 2 at California State-Los Angeles. Nebraska-Omaha will then travel to San Bernardino, Calif. on Saturday, Sept. 4 for a 12:30 p.m. match against Sonoma State before concluding the trip with a 7:30 p.m. battle with host Cal State-San Bernardino.
