Mavericks Upset # 16 Bearcats

UNO used a solid offensive attack with strong defense to upend Southwest Baptist 3-2. The Mavs began the scoring in the 10th minute with a goal by Beth McGill on a pass from Anne Willrett.
SBU tied the match 1-1 on an open goal score by Ashley Munnelly. Freshman Ali Portell gave UNO the lead before the half when she sailed a header in for the score, just out of the reach of SBU goalkeeper Sara Eppler. UNO scored its third and final goal at 52:08 when Brytten Kraft sent a pass to Senior Anne Willrett and she netted the goal just past Eppler. Southwest Baptist shortened UNO's lead when Hayley Moorwood scored on a pass from Vanessa Toll at 63:34. Although it was SBU's final goal, they came close in the closing minutes of the game.
Goalkeeper Amy Price came out from between the pipes to block a breakaway attempt. The ball got away and defender Meghan Pile got to it before it crossed the goal line.
With the victory, UNO has a 4-2-0 record heading into their matchup versus Missouri Southern Sunday Sept. 19 at 1 p.m.
