
Mavs Shut Out Minnesota Duluth, 3-0

DULUTH, Minn. - The Mavericks started out their final weekend of the regular season with a 3-0 win Saturday at Minnesota Duluth, setting up a showdown Sunday for the conference championship. The seventh-ranked Mavs, ranked first in the region, will play Sunday at 1 p.m. at Minnesota State with the winner taking home the North Central Conference title.
UNO (14-2-0, 10-1 NCC) got on the board first when junior Amber Richardson took a corner kick four minutes into the game and knocked it off a UMD player. The Bulldogs were charged with an own goal. Early in the second half freshman Amanda Iwansky finished out another corner kick after senior Meghan Pile got a head on it to push it towards the goal. Junior Beth McGill took the kick and was given an assist. In the 78th minute the Mavs closed out scoring when sophomore Ali Portell shot in a cross from Erin Fosnaugh.
The Mavericks out shot UMD 17-6 and senior goalkeeper Amy Price made three saves as she picked up the win. Sophomore Erin Petersen combined with her for the team's eighth shutout.
