Mavs to Host NCAA Central Regional

With a 15-2-0 record and 14-1-0 mark in-region, the seventh-ranked Mavericks will host the NCAA Central Region tournament this weekend as they make their fourth straight trip into the postseason. UNO, the No. 1 seed, will host No. 4 North Dakota. 14-4-1 at 2:30 p.m. Friday at the Soccer Field at Ak-Sar-Ben. No. 2 Minnesota State, Mankato, 10-8-1, and third-seeded South Dakota, 14-5-1, will kick off the action at noon. The two winners will meet Sunday at noon for a chance to advance to the quarterfinals.
The Mavericks have been the wire-to-wire No. 1 team in the NCAA's regional poll, having only lost once in the region. North Dakota handed the Mavs that loss and the two split the season series. UNO holds a 7-4-0 record in the overall series against the Sioux. The Mavs defeated Minnesota State twice this year and hold a 12-1-0 record in the all-time series, including a win in the 2003 regional final. UNO also swept South Dakota this year and holds an 8-0-0 all-time record against the Coyotes.
UNO is 8-3-1 all-time in the NCAA tournament and 4-0-1 in regional play. The Mavs have advanced through the regional in their three postseason trips and finished second nationally in 2002 and third in 2003 and 2004.
