
Mavericks Down UCM, Advance to Regional Final

OMAHA, Neb. -- Beth McGill gave UNO an early lead and Amber Richardson scored a pair of second half goals to secure a 3-0 win over Central Missouri in the first round of the NCAA II Central Regional tournament Friday at Ak-Sar-Ben Field. UNO will meet Washburn in the regional final Sunday at noon.
Washburn, 15-1-5, advanced by winning a shootout over Missouri Southern after the teams played to a 1-1 overtime tie in the first game Friday. Lauren Schwindt scored for Washburn at 39:10 and Missouri Southern tied on a goal by Amy Davis at 47:45. Washburn won the shootout, 4-2.
McGill, UNO's all-time leading scorer, converted a crossing pass from Brandie Beale in the box for her 20th goal of the season just 7:28 into the game.
Richardson scored her eighth of the season from 30 yards at 56:15 and her ninth of the year on a similar shot into the right side of the goal at 73:37.
UNO outshot the Jennies 20-7 for the game, with Beale getting six attempts to lead the Mavericks. UNO's Ellen Petersen made six saves in earning her 15th shutout of the year. UCM goalkeeper Elizabeth Casey made eight saves.
