No. 8 Grand Valley State is Mavs' Quarterfinal Foe

The opponent is the same, but the scene has changed as No. 1 ranked UNO travels to Allendale, Mich., Saturday to face No. 8 ranked Grand Valley State at noon CST in an NCAA Division II quarterfinal match. The same teams met last year in the quarterfinals, but in Omaha.
The Records
UNO is 19-0-2 on the season, while Grand Valley State is 17-1-1.
The Series
This is just the second meeting ever between the two schools, with each one coming in the national quarterfinal match. UNO won last year in Omaha, 2-0.
The Coach
Don Klosterman is in his eighth season as the UNO head coach. Klosterman, a 1974 graduate of Benedictine, has a 143-26-6 mark and is the only coach the Mavericks have ever had. He has twice been named the NSCAA Coach of the Year, in 2002 and 2005.
Last Week
UNO won its first and second round matches in the NCAA II tournament at home. The Mavericks defeated Central Missouri 3-0, with two goals by Amber Richardson and one by Beth McGill. Sunday, McGill scored both goals, with the second one coming with just 58 seconds left to tie Washburn, 2-2. After two scoreless overtime periods, the Mavericks won the shootout, 3-1, to advance. McGill, Brandie Beale and Tara Wegehaupt scored for UNO and goalkeeper Ellen Petersen made two saves.
At Stake
The winner of Saturday's match will advance to the NCAA II semifinals in Pensacola, Fla., on Thursday, Nov. 16 against the winner of the Tusculum-Tampa match. The national championship match is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 18 in Pensacola.

Amber Richardson tied a school record with her three assists in the 5-1 win over Minnesota State...Beth McGill's 8 points Oct. 29 were 2 shy of the school record...McGill was honored Nov. 1 as the UNO Female Athlete of the Year at the 31st annual UNO Athletic Hall of Fame Banquet....McGill leads the Mavericks in scoring with 22 goals and 12 assists for 56 points and has scored six of the past eight goals for the team...she ranks seventh in NCAA II in points per game and 13th in goals per game...Ellen Petersen leads NCAA II in goals against average at 0.333...Washburn's two goals were the most against the Mavericks in 41 matches, dating back to the opening game of the 2005 season.
