Mavericks Conclude Four-Game Road Trip

OMAHA, Neb. – The University of Nebraska at Omaha soccer team will conclude their longest road trip of the season when they travel to Kansas for matches against Emporia State on Thursday, Oct. 9 at 7 p.m. and Washburn on Saturday, Oct. 11 at 6 p.m.
Last Week
The Mavericks (6-2-0, 4-2-0 MIAA) opened last week with a 1-0 victory against Southwest Baptist then suffered just their second loss of the season with a 2-1 setback at Northwest Missouri State.
The Mavs were able to get past Southwest Baptist on a header by #Jessica Powers on a corner kick from Casey Bigsby#. This marked the first career goal for the third year defender.
Northwest Missouri State's goal in the 68th minute proved to be the difference to pull off the upset of UNO. The Mavericks scored their only goal on a penalty kick by #Megan Jensen#.
The Series
UNO and Emporia State have played just twice. Overall, UNO is 1-0-1 against the Hornets and they haven't played since 2004, a 1-1 draw in Emporia.
The Mavericks hold a 2-0-1 all-time edge in the series with Washburn. The last time these two schools played was in 2006, a 2-2 draw in the NCAA II Regionals in Omaha. UNO was able to defeat the Lady Blues in a shootout to advance in the tournament.
The Coaches
Head coach Don Klosterman has compiled a 163-35-7 overall record as the only soccer coach in UNO history. Under the direction of Klosterman, UNO has advanced to at least the quarterfinals in six straight seasons, including the 2005 National Championship. Klosterman has also been named the National Coach of the Year two times (2002, 2005)
Emporia State is coached by Jim Schneiderhahn who has compiled a 6-41-1 record in his third year with the Hornets. Tracy Hoza is in her sixth season at Washburn and has a 34-54-12 overall record.
Next Week
The Mavericks will return home next week with two MIAA matches. The Mavericks will play host to Missouri Western on Thursday, Oct. 16 at 4 p.m. and Emporia State at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 18.

In the NSCAA/adidas Division II Top 25 poll released on Oct. 7, Nebraska-Omaha is ranked No. 20.
