Cyclones Overpower Mavs in Exhibition Tune-Up

AMES, Iowa - The Iowa State Cyclones raced out to a 12-point lead and pulled away for a 74-54 win over the UNO men's basketball team in exhibition action on Saturday afternoon at ISU's Hilton Coliseum. #Mitch Albers# had 14 points to lead the Mavericks who were playing their first game of the season.
The Cylones got 5 points from both Craig Brackins and Bryan Petersen in the first half as they built a 35-23 lead. Mitch Albers had 12 of his 14 points in the opening frame. He made both 3-point shots he took. Junior #Dion Curry# had 4 of his team-high 7 rebounds in the first half.
ISU continued to pour it on in the second half. Brackins finished with a game-high 17 points while Petersen had 16. For the game, the Cyclones outshot the Mavericks, 44.6% to 31.8%. The Mavericks got 10 points from #Andrew Bridger and 8 from Michael Jenkins#.
The Mavericks return to action next Saturday, Nov. 15 when they host Doane College at Sapp Fieldhouse. Tip-off is 4 p.m.
