Fox and Powers named ESPN the Magazine First Team

University of Nebraska at Omaha soccer players #Lauren Fox and Jessica Powers# have been named ESPN the Magazine First Team Academic All-District 7 (College Division), as announced by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America).
Fox, a junior goalkeeper is a physical education major with a cumulative 3.95 grade point average. The Beatrice, Neb., native was a 2008 Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Academic Honor Roll selection. This season, Fox sports an 11-1-1 record and has posted 7.4 shutouts on the season, both career highs. Fox boasts a 0.82 goals against average, .821 save percentage and has made 55 saves on the year while making 12 starts.
Powers, a senior forward is also a physical education major with a cumulative grade point average of 4.00. The Bellevue, Neb., native was a MIAA Scholar Athlete and an Academic Honor Roll selection last season. She earned the MIAA academic excellence award as well. This season, Powers made the switch from defender to forward and is having her best season statistically. She has netted eight goals and tallied seven assists. Her eight goals rank fourth in the MIAA, while her seven assists rank third. Powers' 23 points are second best in the MIAA. Powers has not missed a start since joining the team in 2006. That's 80-straight starts which ranks ninth all-time in school history.
The Mavericks (13-4-1 overall and 12-1-1 MIAA) have the weekend off and will not be back on the field again until Thursday, Nov. 5 when they travel to Bolivar, Mo., to square off with Southwest Baptist. Kick off is slated for 3 p.m.
