The UNO women's soccer team will look to crack the win column when they travel to Vermillion, S.D., on Sunday for a 1 p.m., game against the South Dakota Coyotes. The Mavericks are coming off a 2-0 loss at Green Bay on Friday, Aug. 19. Sunday's game kicks off a stretch of three games in seven days for the Mavs, as they come home to host Central Oklahoma and Midwestern State next weekend in their home tournament.

South Dakota is off to an 0-1 start after a 3-2 setback at North Dakota on Aug. 19. The Coyotes led 2-1 with 20 minutes to go before North Dakota scored twice to record the win. Sophomore Jenny Teslow scored both goals for the Coyotes, while freshmen Rebecca Pederson and Lauren Bennett each had assists. Freshman Mackenzie Viktor had six saves in her Coyote debut. The Coyotes have 21 freshmen on their 2011 roster. South Dakota is in its first season of Summit League competition. UNO will begin Summit League competition next year.
The Coaches
Don Klosterman is in his 13th year as the head coach of the UNO Mavericks. The only head coach in the program's history, Klosterman has a 193-53-10 record, just seven wins from number 200 in his career at UNO. The two-time national coach of the year has led the Mavericks to the Division II national semifinal four times, culminating in the 2005 NCAA Division II national championship. Under Klosterman, the Mavericks are 19-7 all-time in NCAA Division II tournament play and have won six conference titles. Klosterman formerly served as the head men's soccer coach at Benedictine College (1979-83) and Creighton (1984-86). He graduated from Benedictine in 1974.
Mandy Green is in her second season as the Coyotes' head coach. She possesses a record of 4-13-2 at USD. Before taking the head job at USD, Green was an assistant at Xavier in 2009 and at Minnesota State from 2003-08. Green earned her bachelor's degree from Macalester College (Minn.) in 1999.

The UNO women's soccer team suffered a 2-0 defeat in its season opener at Green Bay on Friday, Aug. 19. The Phoenix scored once in each half to steal the shutout win over the Mavericks in UNO's inaugural Division I game. Hekla Palmadottir scored both goals to lift Green Bay (1-0). She broke the scoreless deadlock in the 26th minute when Emily Friedl broke free down the left side of the field and centered a pass to Palmadottir, who finished from close range. Palmadottir tacked on a second goal in the 82nd minute on a shot from the top of the box. Hannah Kernen earned the assist. The Mavs (0-1) put five shots on goal but failed to get anything by Phoenix keeper Maddie Drusch. UNO goalie Katelyn Tschida made five saves in the loss. Green Bay, the Horizon League's top defensive team last season, outshot UNO 23-8 overall and 7-5 in shots on goal.
