Maverick Men Ready to Begin Spring Season

The Omaha men's tennis team opens its spring season on Sunday with an 11 a.m. match at home against Arkansas. The dual will be played indoors at Hanscom Brandeis Tennis Center.
The Mavericks are coming off a 6-13 season in their first year as a Division I program. This year marks the Mavs' first with a full Summit League schedule. The Razorbacks are ranked 56th in Division I in the ITA Men's Tennis Preseason Rankings.
The Arkansas match is one of five for the Mavs at home to start the season. On Feb. 1, the Mavs host Nebraska Wesleyan. Then on Feb. 3, UNO plays its first official Summit League match when Western Illinois visits. After a short break, the Mavs return to action on Feb. 22 against North Dakota and on March 9 against Oral Roberts.
UNO's first road trip will be a memorable one. The Mavs will participate in Spring Break Tennis at Hilton Head Island in South Carolina from March 19-22. Omaha is slated to face N.J.I.T., The Citadel and Bethune-Cookman.
Following the spring break trip, the Mavs return home to host Creighton on March 29. That dual is scheduled to be the Mavs' first outdoor match at home at Koch Tennis Center.
After that, the Mavs hit the road for four duals in four days. UNO faces Summit League foes IUPUI and Fort Wayne on April 4 and April 5, respectively. Then the Mavs square off with Valparaiso and Chicago State on April 6 and April 7, respectively.
UNO closes the spring season with three matches at home. Kansas City visits on April 10, South Dakota State on April 13 and Bradley on April 19.
The Mavericks are not eligible to compete in the conference tournament or postseason play until 2015-16 as part of their transitional status.
Senior Matt Frost is back for the Mavericks, as is junior Eric McKnight. Both redshirted last season. The Mavs will also lean on junior Carlos Ramos Salazar, who was the Mavs' No. 1 singles player last year, and sophomore Connor Larson, who had a solid first season for the Mavs at No. 3 singles last season.
