The Omaha volleyball team returns home for two matches this weekend, hosting Denver on Friday, Oct. 31 at 7 p.m. and South Dakota State on Sunday, Nov. 2 at 2 p.m. Links to live stats and live video will be available on OMavs.com, and Jon Green will provide commentary for both webcasts.
Scouting the Denver Pioneers
Conference leader Denver enters the weekend with a record of 19-5 (8-2 Summit League) after dropping a 3-1 road decision to North Dakota State on Tuesday in Fargo, N.D. The Pioneers are led by Moni Corrujedo's 3.45 kills per set, which ranks sixth in the Summit League. Head coach Jesse Mahoney is in his fourth season at DU and holds a career record of 53-30.
Denver leads the all-time series against Omaha, 4-0. The two schools last played on Oct. 5, when the Pioneers took a 3-0 sweep in Denver, Colo.
Scouting the South Dakota State Jackrabbits
South Dakota State enters the weekend with a record of 6-21 (0-10 Summit League) after falling 3-0 to North Dakota State last Sunday in Fargo, N.D. The Jackrabbits are led by Tiara Gibson's 2.10 kills per set, while Alanna Pengilly's 403 total digs this season rank third in the Summit League. Head coach Phil McDaniel is in his fifth year at SDSU, and he holds a record of 40-76 with a career mark of 97-119.
Omaha leads the all-time series against South Dakota State, 35-19. The two schools last played on Oct. 19, when the Mavs earned a 3-1 win in Brookings, S.D. That broke the Jacks' streak of 13 straight victories in the UNO-SDSU series dating back to 2000.

As such, the Mavericks, who may not officially be listed in the NCAA Division I stats release, are unofficially ranked 26th in the country with 221 total blocks, and they are 48th nationally with 2.48 blocks per set. Individually, junior Megan Schmale is 41st among Division I blockers with 103 total blocks.

Omaha claims four of the top 10 spots on the Summit League's individual blocking leaders list. Redshirt freshman middle blocker Amanda Conlin is third with 1.23 blocks per set, junior middle blocker Megan Schmale is fourth (1.16), junior setter/rightside hitter Michaela Schimmer is fifth (1.00) and junior middle blocker Diane Banderas is sixth (0.98). Schmale also ranks first in the conference with 98 block assists and is second with 103 total blocks.
As a team, Omaha leads the league with 390 block assists and is second in total blocks (221) and blocks per set (2.48).
Last Time Out: Mavs Fall 3-0 at South Dakota
Omaha finished off its weekend roadtrip on Sunday afternoon, falling 3-0 (22-25, 23-25, 20-25) to South Dakota at the DakotaDome. Freshman setter Sydney O'Shaughnessy registered her team-leading 12th double-double of the year, closing the day with 23 assists and 12 digs, along with three service aces and a block. The effort also marked O'Shaughnessy's third straight double-double in as many matches.
Junior outside hitter Kelley Wollak finished with a team-high nine kills, and junior middle blocker Megan Schmale had eight kills with a team-best four blocks. Junior setter/rightside hitter Michaela Schimmer matched Schmale with four blocks and also had five kills.
Freshman outside hitter Mackenzie Horkey delivered five kills with a team-leading 15 digs and two stops at the net.
As a team, Omaha hit .058 to USD's .165 and trailed the Coyotes in blocking, 10-7.
