Women's Soccer Tops UMKC, 4-0, in Exhibition Match

OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha women's soccer team pulled off a 4-0 win in an exhibition game against Kansas City on Sunday.
Haley Shelton earned valuable playing time in goal with six saves while earning the win at home. Katlyn Schochenmaier also saw time in goal and made two saves.
Freshman Abby Meader started it off for the Mavericks with a goal in the 23rd minute. Meader pounced on a loose ball outside the box and pounded a right footed shot that found the back of the net.
Kansas City responded quickly after the restart, but Lexie Howard's shot sailed wide. The Kangaroos had another golden opportunity in the 32nd minute, but Shelton came up with a big save to keep UMKC off the board.
Chelsi Rohloff got into the scoring column in the 53rd minute. Lydia Holtmann played a ball into Kyla Booker who laid the ball off to Rohloff for the goal. Omaha made the score 3-0 in the 61st minute as Hannah Wampler found Booker off a throw in. Booker beat one defender and pounded a shot into the upper corner for her first goal of the exhibition season.
The Mavericks' goal-scoring frenzy wasn't finished, however, as Rohloff sealed the deal with her second goal of the evening off an assist from Marin Dregelid.
UMKC outshot Omaha, 18-12, on the evening. Rohloff had a team high three shots, while Dregelid and freshman Emily Romero each had two. Kansas City's Niekie Pellens had a game high four shots.
Omaha head coach Don Klosterman and his squad will play their first official game of the season on Sunday, Aug. 23 in Iowa City, Iowa against the University of Iowa at 1:00 p.m.
