Women's Soccer Hosts Two Matches this Weekend

OMAHA, Neb. –The Omaha women's soccer team starts a three-game homestand this weekend with two games against teams from Colorado. UNO will host Colorado State Friday, Sept. 18 at 7 p.m. at Caniglia Field before welcoming Northern Colorado for a 12 p.m. tilt on Sunday, Sept. 20.
Last weekend, the Mavericks defeated Drake at home and then dropped a decision at Minnesota.

Omaha by the Numbers

2005 – The year that Omaha women's soccer won its only NCAA Division II National Championship. The Mavericks finished the season 20-2 overall and 11-1 in the North Central Conference.   The Mavs defeated Seattle Pacific in the finals in overtime, 2-1.
About Omaha
Omaha is off to a 2-3-2 start after splitting a pair of games last weekend. UNO defeated Drake on Friday evening, 2-1, before falling at Minnesota, 9-1.
Chelsi Rohloff leads the team with six points off three goals this season. Lydia Holtmann and Marin Dregelid each have three points on a goal and an assist. Courtney Neville leads the team with two assists. Freshman Kelsey Stithem scored her first career goal at Minnesota on Sunday afternoon.
Goalkeepers Haley Shelton and Katlyn Schochenmaier have split time in goal this season for the Mavericks. Shelton has four starts and a 0-2-1 record with a 2.97 goals-against average and a .633 save percentage. Schochenmaier has appeared in five games with two starts. She is 2-1-1 on the season with a 2.68 goals-against average and a.744 save percentage. Schochenmaier picked up her first Summit League Defensive Player of the Week award two weeks ago and made a program best 15 saves at North Dakota.
Defenders Ava Doetsch and Katie Vanderzwaag lead the team in minutes played. Doetsch has played in 654 of the teams 670 minutes this season and Vanderzwaag is close behind with 598 minutes.
Reviewing the Rams
• Colorado State has opened the 2015 season with a 2-4-1 mark. The two wins have come against teams on the Omaha schedule this fall.
• CSU defeated Summit League member Denver on Aug. 23, 1-0. The Rams also defeated Northern Colorado last week, 3-1.
• Colorado State started its women's soccer program in 2013.
• Hannah Gerdin leads the team with five points on two goals and an assist, while Taylor Nelson has four points on two goals.
• Goalkeeper Jesse McGinley has played every minute and has a 1.11 goals-against average and a .800 save percentage.
• Bill Hempen is in his third year at CSU and 26th season overall.
Series vs. CSU
Friday marks the first meeting between the two programs.
Notes on Northern Colorado
• Northern Colorado is off to a 5-3 start this season and are coming off a 3-1 victory at Wyoming.
• Sydney Schroeder leads the Bears with six points on three goals. Kassy Castillo has added two goals, while Rebecca Lancia leads the team with four assists.
• Both UNC keepers have started four games. Madeline Burdick is 3-1-0 with two shutouts and a 0.75 goals-against average. Kaitlin Ruff is 2-2-0 with one shutout and a 1.18 goals-against average.
• Lancia and Adrienne Jordan earned Big Sky Player of Week honors earlier this season.
Series vs. Northern Colorado
Omaha and Northern Colorado will be meeting for the 11th time on Sunday afternoon. UNC leads the all-time series, 7-3.
Last season, the Rams defeated UNO, 4-1, in Greeley, Colo. Northern Colorado scored the only goal of the first half in the 20th minute. Juliana Grover beat Omaha keeper Haley Shelton for the game's first goal. Omaha had a chance to even the game in the 35th minute of the opening half. Marquette Pick had her shot blocked away at the last moment by UNC keeper Kaitlin Ruff.
Omaha came out on the attack to start the second half. Chelsi Rohloff scored the Mavericks only goal in the 48th minute. Courtney Neville played a perfect through ball to Rohloff who placed the ball past the keeper for her fourth goal of the year.
Paige Morris put Northern Colorado back on top, 2-1, in the 62nd minute off an assist from Kassy Castillo. Rebecca Lancia would score in the 66th and 88th minute to finish off the scoring for the Bears.

Omaha wraps up non-conference play on Tuesday, Sept. 22 against Missouri State at 7 p.m.
The Mavericks open Summit League play the weekend of Oct. 2-4. UNO visits North Dakota State to open league play on Friday, Oct. 2, before visiting defending Summit League champion South Dakota State on Sunday, Oct. 4.
A History Lesson
The Omaha women's soccer program will be welcoming all soccer alumnae to Friday's game against Colorado State.
The Mavericks will also be celebrating the 2005 NCAA Division II National Championship team. Omaha finished the 2005 season 20-2 overall and 11-1 in the North Central Conference.
In the naitonal championship game, Omaha defeated Seattle Pacific in overtime, 2-1.
