Mavericks Begin Summit League Season This Weekend

OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha women's soccer team kicks off its Summit League schedule this weekend with two big-time tests. The Mavericks first travel to face North Dakota State in Fargo on Friday, Oct. 2 at 7 p.m. UNO heads to Brookings, South Dakota, for a game against defending Summit League champion South Dakota State on Sunday. About Omaha
Omaha opens Summit League play with fresh legs after not playing for the past nine days. UNO last played on Tuesday, Sept. 22 against Missouri State. Despite out shooting MSU by a 10-6 margin, Omaha lost the match, 1-0.
Chelsi Rohloff leads the team with eight points off four goals this season. Lydia Holtmann and Marin Dregelid each have three points on a goal and an assist. Courtney Neville leads the team with two assists.
Goalkeepers Haley Shelton and Katlyn Schochenmaier have split time in goal this season for the Mavericks.  Schochenmaier has appeared in eight games with five starts. She is 3-3-1 on the season with a 1.71 goals-against average and a.793 save percentage. Schochenmaier has earned two Summit League Defensive Players of the Week this season. Shelton has four starts and a 0-2-1 record with a 2.97 goals-against average and a .633 save percentage.
Bison Briefs
- North Dakota State enters Friday night's contest with a 5-5 overall record. Last time out, NDSU dropped a 1-0 decision to UC Riverside.
- The Bison were picked to finish third in the Preseason Coaches' Poll.
- Lauren Miller leads the team with 18 points on seven goals and four assists. Miller tallied seven points on three goals and an assist against NCAA Division II member, St. Cloud State.
- Amy Yang has 12 points on the season with four goals and four assists.
- Sierra Bonham has played every minute in goal this season for NDSU and has 58 saves.
Series vs. North Dakota State
The two programs have met nine times. North Dakota State holds a 5-3-1 series lead over Omaha.  Last season in Omaha, the two teams played to a 1-1 draw.
Judging the Jackrabbits
- SDSU is the defending Summit League regular season and tournament champions. They were picked to finish second behind Denver in the Preseason Coaches' Poll.
- The Jackrabbits currently own a 5-4-1 mark this season with wins over Creighton, Drake, and Northern Iowa.
- Madison Yueill leads the team with six points on three goals. Diana Potterveld has five points on two goals and an assist.
- Nicole Inskeep has played every minute in goal for the Jackrabbits and has a 1.17 goals against average.
Series vs. South Dakota State
The two teams have matched up eight times with Omaha owning a 5-2-1 advantage. Â Last season in Omaha, the Mavs prevailed, 2-0.
Women's Soccer Earns 14th Straight NSCAA Team Academic Award
The Omaha women's soccer team was recognized as a College Team Academic Award winner by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, the organization announced. A total of 859 soccer teams (305 men, 554 women) posted a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher, thereby earning the NSCAA College Team Academic Award for the 2014-15 academic year.
This is the 14th time the Mavericks have been recognized by the NSCAA for their academic performance under Head Coach Don Klosterman. UNO finished the academic year with a 3.37 cumulative GPA.
Omaha was recognized as one of 208 schools to have both their men's and women's programs recognized. This is the fourth consecutive year both Omaha soccer teams have been recognized for their work in the classroom.

Omaha welcomes IUPUI to Caniglia Field on Friday, Oct. 9 at 7 p.m., before departing to Fort Wayne for a Sunday afternoon game with the Mastodons.
