Mavericks Start Spring Season at Islander Classic

Corpus Christi, Texas-- The Omaha women's golf team begins the spring season at the Islander Classic on Monday and Tuesday, Feb. 20-21.Â
FormatÂ
The Islander Classic, hosted by Texas A&M Corpus Christi, is a two-day, 54-hole event. The first two rounds are on Monday, Feb. 20. The final round is on Tuesday, Feb. 21. Both days begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 A.M.Â
FieldÂ
Fifteen teams join the Mavericks at Corpus Christi Country Club, including Bryant, Creighton, Drake, Houston Christian, Lamar, McLennan College, Prairie View, Southern Illinois, Steven F. Austin, Texas A&M Kingsville, Tennessee Tech, UT Arlington, UT Rio Grande Valley, Valparaiso, and host Texas A&M Corpus Christi.Â
LineupÂ
Five Mavericks are in the lineup for this event. These five filled the lineup in all 15 rounds of the fall season, posting a team-scoring average of 306.2 in five events.Â

Sydney Taake takes the number one spot in the lineup. After another impressive fall season, the sophomore was named a Summit League Golfer to Watch for the spring. Taake led the Mavericks in the fall with a scoring average of 76.7.Â

Nicole Hansen has been a fantastic addition to Porter's lineup. The senior posted the second-best scoring average on the team at 77.2 and earned two top-20 finishes in the fall. Hansen also matched her career-best round score, recording a 70 (-2) in the second round of the Ozarks National Invitational last November.Â

Macarena Garcia is off to an impressive start for Omaha. In the fall, the freshman tied the lowest single-round score in program history, notching a 68 (-4) in the third round of the Kelsey Chugg Invitational last September. Garcia currently holds the Mavericks' third best scoring average at 77.5.Â

Mika Miyata is having a career year for the Mavericks. The junior carries a scoring average of 78.6 through 15 rounds this season. Through 27 rounds in 2021-22, Miyata averaged 81 strokes-per-round. In 2020-21, Miyata had an average of 83.5 over 20 rounds. This season, Mika set a new career best round, scoring an even 72 in the third round of the Payne Stewart Invitational last September.Â

Emily Karmazin is another freshman off to a great start. In addition to a stroke average of 78.1, Karmazin has recorded two rounds under par. Emily posted scores of 71 (-1) at the Payne Stewart and Kelsey Chugg Invitationals last September. Karmazin also earned a top-five finish, taking fourth place at the Kelsey Chugg Invitational.Â
