Mavericks Selected Third in Summit League Preseason Poll

Sioux Falls, S.D.- The Omaha women's soccer team is tabbed third in the Summit League Preseason Poll, the league announced Tuesday. The Mavericks have finished third in the regular season standings each of the last three seasons.Â
Seniors Grace Ostergaard and Regan Zimmers were named Players to Watch after helping the Mavericks win the Summit League title last year.Â
The Mavericks clinched their first ever league championship going 7-9-6 overall, 4-2-3 in conference play. They made history as the first women's program to reach the Division I NCAA Tournament.Â
Omaha is returning 21 players from last season's championship squad. The Mavericks notched key conference victories over North Dakota State, St. Thomas and Oral Roberts, and collected eight shutouts throughout the year.Â
Regan Zimmers played a big part in those eight shutouts, logging 1,930 minutes over 22 starts as a defender. Zimmers collected a goal and two assists, totaling four points. Regan was named All-Summit League first team, and United Soccer Coaches All-West Region second team after the season. Last week, Zimmers was named United Soccer Coaches Defender to Watch for the 2023 season.Â
Grace Ostergaard earned her second Player to Watch nomination after being a Player to Watch a season ago. Ostergaard picked up her third All-League second team award after a great season in 2022. Grace tallied two goals and an assist for five points on the year. Â
Omaha opens the regular season at home this week with a match against Southern Utah. The Mavericks and Thunderbirds kickoff at 7 p.m. at Caniglia Field.Â
