Mavs Open NCC Play With No. 11 MSU, SCSU

The University of Nebraska at Omaha volleyball squad (9-7) will open the North Central Conference portion of the schedule this weekend when they host 11th-ranked Minnesota State University, Mankato (9-2) in a 7 p.m. match on Friday, Sep. 26 at the Sapp Fieldhouse. The Mavericks will host St. Cloud State (7-6) on Saturday, Sep. 27, beginning at 6 p.m.
Scouting UNO:
The Mavericks are 9-7 on the season after losing in four games at Southwest Minnesota State on Sep. 18 in their only match last week. UNO is now 4-2 against regional opponents.
Junior Amy Sibbernsen (4.36 kpg, .235 hit %) has been the Mavericks' top offensive threat. Sibbernsen has been named to the all-tournament teams at both the Lynn Labor Day Classic and the UNO Tournament. Sophomore outside hitter Chelsea Miller (3.03 dpg) and Sibbernsen (2.67 dpg) lead the defensive effort.

Minnesota State is currently 9-2 and ranked No. 11 in the nation. The Mavericks defeated previous No. 1 Tampa in five games on Sep. 5. MSU is led by All-American outside hitter Jen Jacobs, who is averaging 3.56 kills and 3.66 digs per game. The Mavericks, who were the pre-season favorites in the NCC coaches' poll, have a balanced offense with five players averaging over 2.24 kpg.
Scouting SCSU
The Huskies have nearly doubled last year's win total and are currently 7-6 in 2003. St. Cloud has won five out of its last six matches. SCSU is led by senior all-NCC setter Kari Turkowski, who averages 9.81 assists, 2.62 digs, 0.51 blocks, and a team second-best 2.98 kills per game. Senior outside hitter Jane Backes averages a team-leading 3.50 kills per game.
