Rankin Joins 1,000 Kill Club in UNO Sweep

Omaha, Neb. -- Senior outside hitter Jenny Rankin recorded her 1,000th career kill on Saturday night as the University of Nebraska at Omaha volleyball team swept visiting Minnesota State, Mankato 3-0 (30-23, 30-27, 30-26) before 411 fans at the Sapp Fieldhouse. Rankin, who tallied eight kills and six digs on the night, became just the 15th player in school history to record 1,000 kills. She now has 1,005 in her four-year Maverick career.
Nebraska-Omaha (12-4, 3-1 NCC) was led on the night by senior outside hitter Amy McLeay who registered her team-leading 10th double-double on the season with 15 kills and 11 digs. Junior Ashley Freeman, who played in just two games, hit a sizzling .700 with seven kills, no errors, in 10 attempts.
Junior setter Christie Johnson notched a match-high 43 assists and four service aces. Freshman middle blocker Carlie Christensen also added four service aces along with six kills and three blocks. Junior libero Chelsea Miller led the Maverick defense with 15 digs.
The UNO Mavericks outhit Minnesota State .201 to .134 and held a 50 to 37 advantage in kills. Nebraska-Omaha also dominated at the service line with 10 aces, compared to just three for MSU.
Minnesota State (5-11, 0-4 NCC) was led by sophomore outside hitter Cassie Wolpern who recorded 17 kills and 12 digs. Senior setter Melanie Judes handed out 32 assists in the match.
The Mavericks will entertain the nation's No. 1-ranked team, Nebraska-Kearney on Tuesday, Oct. 5 beginning at 7 p.m. at the Sapp Fieldhouse.
