Top-Ranked Lopers Sweep No. 23 Mavericks

Omaha, Neb. -- No. 1-ranked Nebraska-Kearney extended its winning streak to 20 matches by sweeping the 23rd-ranked UNO Mavericks 3-0 (30-22, 30-26, 30-22) before a season-high 1,284 fans at the Sapp Fieldhouse in non-conference volleyball action Tuesday night. The Lopers improved to 20-0 with the victory while UNO dropped to 12-5.
The Mavericks were led by senior outside hitter Amy McLeay who registered a match-high 15 kills, along with eight digs, and three blocks. Freshman middle blocker Carlie Christensen added nine kills and four blocks. Junior setter Christie Johnson dished out a match-high 44 assists. The Mavericks were led defensively by junior Chelsea Miller's 12 digs.
Nebraska-Omaha was plagued by 33 hitting errors in the match, compared to just eight for the Lopers. UNK outhit the Mavericks .281 to .114. The Mavericks did hold a 56 to 45 advantage in digs, but were outblocked 18 to 10.
Nebraska-Kearney, which has only been extended past three games once this season, was led by junior All-American Erin Gudmundson, who tallied 12 kills and five blocks, while hitting .360 on the night. Erin Arnold added nine kills and 13 digs in the Loper victory.
The Mavericks will return to North Central Conference action on Saturday, Oct. 9 when they travel to Vermillion, S.D. for a 7:30 p.m. match with the University of South Dakota.
