UNO Sweeps Northern State at Crossover

Aberdeen, S.D. -- Senior Amy McLeay registered 21 kills and eight digs while hitting .341 to lead the University of Nebraska at Omaha volleyball team to a 3-0 sweep (30-25, 32-30, 30-11) over Northern State Friday afternoon, Sept. 10, in the North Central Region Crossover being held at the Barnett Center on the campus of Northern State University. The Mavericks improved to 6-3 on the season with the win.
McLeay, who leads the 2004 Mavericks in kills with 136, recorded her fourth 20-kill match of the season.
Junior setter Christie Johnson led UNO's defensive effort with a team-leading nine digs, to go along with 44 assists. Junior outside hitter Jenny Rankin added nine kills and four digs. Freshman Carlie Christensen pounded seven kills and hit .462 with only one error in 13 attempts.
In the third game, which was the Mavericks' most lopsided win of the 2004 season, Nebraska-Omaha outhit the Wolves .462 to -.073 with Northern State committing 10 hitting errors compared to just two for the Mavericks. For the match, UNO outhit Northern State .248 to .051.
The Mavericks will continue action in the North Central Region Crossover later tonight with a 7 p.m. match against Winona State. Nebraska-Omaha will conclude the tournament with a 2 p.m. match on Saturday, Sept. 11, against Bemidji State.
Note: The North Central Region Crossover pits teams from the North Central Conference against squads from the Northern Sun Conference. The two conferences comprise the NCAA Division II North Central Region.
