Shires Signs Minnesota High School Standout

University of Nebraska at Omaha head volleyball coach Rose Shires announced today the signing of 5-8 libero/defensive specialist Amber Buysse (Marshall, Minn../Marshall HS/Marshall Volleyball Club) to North Central Conference and national letters of intent to attend UNO in the fall of 2005.
"Amber is a tough, competitive player who hates to lose," said Shires. "She will definitely add to our team's competitive nature and the overall character of our team."
Buysse earned Minnesota Class AAA all-state honors while leading her team to the 2004 state championship. Buysse, who was coached by Dan Westby and Terry Culhane at Marshall High School, helped lead her team to four consecutive Minnesota State Volleyball Tournaments, finishing first in 2004, second in 2002, fifth in 2001, and sixth in 2003.
"Amber fights hard to maintain the best possible body position defensively," added Shires. "Her focus is always controlling the outcome of the pass or dig. Amber has also demonstrated that she is the consumate team player"
Buysse was a three-sport letterwinner in volleyball, basketball and track. She earned conference championships in the shot put and discus. Buysse also helped lead Marshall HS to the 2002 Class AAA state championship in basketball.
An excellent student, Buysse was named to the Honor Roll 14 times throughout her high school career. She plans to major in exercise science.
Buysee played under coaches Lisa and Jason Sherman of the Marshall Volleyball Club which qualified for the 2004 USA Volleyball Junior Nationals in Atlanta, Ga.
Nebraska-Omaha advanced to the second round of the 2004 NCAA II Tournament, finishing the season with a 17-11 overall record and a 6-6 conference mark.
