UNO Opens Season by Hosting 8-Team Tournament

The University of Nebraska at Omaha Mavericks will open the 2005 season this Friday-Saturday, Aug. 26-27, when they host the Omaha Executive Inn & Suites Classic at the Sapp Fieldhouse. The Mavericks will take on Regis at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, followed by a 6:30 match with Hillsdale. Saturday's matches include a 1 p.m. showdown with Drury and the tournament concludes with a 6 p.m. battle with Southern Illinois-Edwardsville. Other tournament participants include: Fort Lewis, Rockhurst, and Wayne State.
The Record
The Mavericks finished the 2004 season with a 17-11 record, advancing to the second round of the NCAA II Tournament. It marked the first post-season appearance for the Mavericks since the 2000 season. UNO finished in fifth place in the North Central Conference standings with a 6-6 overall record. Five starters and 10 letterwinners return for the 2005 season.
The Rankings
In the CSTV/AVCA Division II Coaches Top 25 poll released on Aug. 8, Nebraska-Omaha was not ranked. However, the Mavericks did receive 29 points in the poll. Hillsdale and Southern Illinois-Edwardsville also received votes.
