Mavs Opens Season by Hosting UNO Classic

The University of Nebraska at Omaha Mavericks will open the 2007 season this Friday-Saturday, Aug. 24-25, when they host the five-team UNO Classic in the Sapp Fieldhouse.
The Mavericks will open the tournament on Friday afternoon with a 1 p.m. contest against Montana State-Billings. UNO will conclude Friday's play with a 7 p.m. match against Minnesota State-Moorhead. The Mavericks will face Mary at 1 p.m. Saturday before wrapping up the tournament with a 5 p.m. match against Colorado State-Pueblo.
The Record
The Mavericks finished the 2006 season with a 21-7 record, advancing to the NCAA II Tournament for a third-straight season and the eighth time in the Rose Shires' era. UNO finished in second place in the final North Central Conference standings with a 8-4 league record. Five starters and nine letterwinners return for the 2007 season as the Mavericks will have to replace last year's two departing seniors.

In the CSTV/AVCA Division II Coaches Top 25 preseason poll released on Aug. 15, Nebraska-Omaha was ranked No. 18. North Central Conference rival Minnesota Duluth was ranked No. 2 in the preseason poll.

Christensen, Agnew Climbing Maverick Career Charts
Senior middle blocker Carlie Christensen has moved up to eighth on the Maverick career charts with 300 block assists. Senior setter Katie Agnew ranks 13th with 1,248 career set assists.
Christensen Nearing 1,000-Kill Mark
All-American Carlie Christensen will be looking to become the 16th player in school history to record 1,000 career kills. The senior from Omaha has tallied 861 kills to date.
