Shires Signs Lincoln East Standout

University of Nebraska at Omaha head volleyball coach #Rose Shires# announced today the addition of Nebraska high school standout, Natalie Ebke, who signed a Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association and national letter of intent and will attend UNO in the fall of 2009.
Ebke is a 5-10 outside hitter from Lincoln (Neb.) East High School, where she was coached by Myron Oehlerking. As a senior, she helped lead Lincoln East to an appearance in the 2008 Nebraska State Volleyball Tournament and a No. 7 final ranking in Nebraska Class A. Ebke earned first team Class A all-state honors in 2008.
The Mavericks lose just one senior from the 2008 squad, in defensive specialist Annie Rice, also from Lincoln East High School.
"Natalie is a dynamic, versatile well-rounded athlete who will be a six-rotation player for us," said Shires. "Natalie's aggressive style of play and ability to hit from any position at the net net will allow her to immediately contend for playing time as a freshman."
An outstanding student, Ebke was an academic all-state selection and a member of National Honor Society.
In addition to volleyball, she also lettered in basketball and soccer and earned all-state honorable mention honors in both sports.
"I am expecting great things from Natalie and I am looking forward to watching her develop and compete as a Maverick volleyball player," added Shires.
The Mavericks will make their fifth-straight appearance in the NCAA II Tournament when they travel to Emporia, Kan. to take on MIAA foe Truman State in the first round of the South Central Regional on Nov. 21 at 2:30 p.m.
