OMAHA, Neb. – The UNO volleyball team played its first of four Red/Black scrimmages of the season on Saturday at Sapp Fieldhouse, beginning preparations for regular-season competition.
The UNO Red/Black match was limited to three games, with the Red squad taking the first set, 27-25. Black then rallied for two straight wins, 25-15 in game two and 25-20 in game three.
Junior outside hitter Natalie Ebke led the Black squad with nine kills, while junior middle blocker Lizzy Mach and sophomore Ali Jansen tallied eight kills apiece. Senior setter Emily Myers finished with 21 assists and 11 digs for a double-double.
For the Red team, enior middle blocker Brittany Hanssen and junior outside hitter Sydney Fleege each notched seven kills to lead the way. Hanssen also put up a match-leading four blocks for the day.
Following the Red/Black scrimmage, the Mavericks took on a squad of UNO alumnae. The 2011 Mavs topped the Alums 3-1 with set scores of 25-18, 34-32, 24-26 and 25-22.
UNO opens regular-season play at the Bradley Tournament, Aug. 26-27, in Peoria, Ill.
