Roberts Named Academic All-League

Senior defensive specialist Amy Roberts has been named to the 2012 Summit League Academic All-League Team, the conference office announced Tuesday.
Roberts was one of six student-athletes selected to the team and honored for their combined athletic and academic performances this season. The Norfolk, Neb., native carries a 3.93 grade-point average in secondary education and Spanish, and she is set to graduate with her bachelor's degrees in May 2013. Roberts played in every match of her three-year Maverick career as a defensive specialist or libero, and her senior season proved to be her best. She ranked third in the league in service aces (0.28 per set) and eighth in digs (4.19 per set).
The other five student-athletes represented on the academic all-league team were Kelly Herrmann (South Dakota State), Brynn Joki (North Dakota State), Alli Kirk (Oakland), Hailie Ripley (Fort Wayne) and Megan Steenhuysen (Fort Wayne).
To be eligible for The Summit League Academic All-League team, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.30 (on a 4.0 scale), completed at least one full academic year at the current institution and participated in 50 percent of their team's competitions. The volleyball all-league team is made up of the six student-athletes receiving the most votes with all ties standing.
