Mavs Come Up Short at New Mexico State

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The Omaha women's soccer team dropped its season opener at New Mexico State, 3-1, on Friday night.
The Aggies (1-0) scored twice in the first 16 minutes to take control of the match, beginning with a rebound goal by Layla Todd 4:49 into the match.
In the 16th minute, Bree Luhrsen scored from 10 yards out on the right side of the box to make it 2-0 New Mexico State.
The Aggies tacked on a third goal at 32:39 when Mary Kate Koziol curled in a corner kick.
The Mavericks (0-1) snapped the shutout with 48 seconds left in the match, as Katlyn Nimtz scored a header off of a cross from Anna Sibson.
Meaghan Clark made three saves for UNO. New Mexico State outshot the Mavs 12-6 overall, but shots on goal were just 6-5 in favor of the Aggies. Nimtz had two shots on goal to lead UNO.
The Mavs play at UTEP on Sunday before returning home.
