Scouting the Fort Wayne Mastodons
Fort Wayne enters the weekend with a record of 7-10 (1-2 Summit League) after falling 3-0 to South Dakota on Sunday afternoon in Fort Wayne, Ind. The Mastodons sit just behind Omaha in the Summit League standings, where they are seventh.
IPFW is led offensively by Emily Spencer, who leads the conference with 4.79 kills per set. Anna Wrede also leads the conference with 1.62 blocks per set, and Kendall Wienkes has a league-best 0.44 service aces per set. Spencer and Hailie Ripley both earned All-Summit recognition last season. Head coach Steve Florio is in his first season and holds a career record of 7-10 after replacing former coach Kelley Hartley Hutton, who assumed duties as IPFW's athletic director this year.
This weekend marks the sixth meeting all-time between Omaha and Fort Wayne, and the Mastodons lead the series, 5-0. The two squads last met at Sapp Fieldhouse on Nov. 3, 2013, with IPFW winning 3-1.

•UNO tied its season-best team attack percentage (.252) on Sunday at Denver, matching its hitting clip against Tennessee from Sept. 6.
•Freshman setter Sydney O'Shaughnessy earned her team-leading ninth double-double -- her fifth straight -- with 16 assists and 10 digs at Denver last Sunday. On Friday against North Dakota State, she also finished with a career-high 44 assists and 10 digs.

Omaha's blocking corps has been outstanding during the 2014 season, and the statistics say it all. The Mavericks have outblocked their opponents a combined 182-105 and have tallied double-digit team blocks in 11 matches. As such, the Mavericks, who may not officially be listed in the NCAA Division I stats release, are unofficially ranked sixth in the country with 182 total blocks, and they are 35th nationally with 2.60 blocks per set. Individually, junior Megan Schmale is 18th among Division I blockers with 83 total blocks.
The Block Party: Summit League Style
Omaha claims three of the top five spots on the Summit League's individual blocking leaders list. Redshirt freshman middle blocker Amanda Conlin is second with 1.24 blocks per set, junior middle blocker Megan Schmale is third (1.19) and junior setter/rightside hitter Michaela Schimmer is fifth (1.04).
As a team, Omaha leads the Summit League's top blocking team with 182 total blocks and 322 block assists, and it ranks second with 2.60 blocks per set.
Last Time Out: Denver Drops Mavericks on the Road, 3-0
Omaha traveled to Denver on Sunday afternoon, falling 3-0 (17-25, 19-25, 22-25) at Hamilton Gymnasium. Junior setter/rightside hitter Michaela Schimmer led UNO with a season-best-tying 12 kills on .348 hitting, adding nine assists, six digs and two blocks. Freshman setter Sydney O'Shaughnessy had a team-leading 16 assists and 10 digs for her ninth double-double, the most of any Maverick this year.
Junior outside hitter Kelley Wollak added another eight kills, while junior middle blockers Megan Schmale and Amy Taylor and freshman outside hitter Mackenzie Horkey each had five kills.
As a team, Omaha hit .210 for the day to the Pioneers' .361. DU also outblocked UNO, 4.5 to 3.
