CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas -- The Omaha volleyball team split its final two matches at the Emerald Beach Islanders Classic on Saturday, falling 3-0 (15-25, 12-25, 20-25) to Boise State before defeating UT-Pan American, 3-1 (25-23, 17-25, 25-13, 25-21). In completing the weekend tournament, the Mavericks improved to 5-8 on the year.

BOISE STATE 3, OMAHA 0
The Mavericks kicked off the day with a morning match against Boise State. Junior outside hitter Kelley Wollak had a team-leading seven kills with six digs, while junior middle blocker Megan Schmale added five kills and a match-best five blocks.

Freshman setter Sydney O'Shaughnessy had a team-high 13 assists, and she and junior defensive specialist Kimberly Bailey each had eight digs.

As a team, Omaha outblocked BSU, 9-8, but the Broncos hit .364 to UNO's .084, including a blistering .607 attack percentage in the second set.

Boise State was led by a double-double from Sierra Nobley, who finished with 13 kills and 12 digs. Alyssa Gammel added another 10 kills, while Katelyn Kinghorn had nine.

OMAHA 3, UT-PAN AMERICAN 1
In the final match of the day, the Omaha blocking corps was the catalyst, as the Mavericks outblocked UTPA, 19-10. The 19 team blocks marked a season high for UNO and represented its highest team block total since Sept. 9, 2009, when the Mavs had 20 against Nebraska-Kearney.

Wollak led the way again in the nightcap, snagging her fifth double-double on a team highs of 14 kills and 16 digs with three blocks. Bailey, who was named to the all-tournament team at the night's conclusion, matched Wollak with 16 digs and also had two aces.

Schmale was UNO's leader at the net, tying her season high of nine blocks along with six kills on .444 hitting. Junior middle blocker Amy Taylor chipped in eight blocks, and Schimmer put up seven kills, 13 assists, eight digs and five blocks with an ace.

Freshman outside hitter Mackenzie Horkey also had eight kills with 11 digs and three blocks, while junior middle blocker Diane Banderas and redshirt freshman middle blocker Amanda Conlin each had four blocks.

The Broncs were paced by 13 kills from Kyra Hill, along with 12 from Maria Kliefoth. Haley Durham had six blocks for UTPA.

In addition to its outstanding blocking performance, Omaha held UTPA to .086 hitting while compiling a .178 attack percentage itself.

"We started off this weekend's tournament sluggish and did not have a great first day," head coach Rose Shires said. "Today was a much better day, and we were in focus and attacked our opponents. When our blocking game is on like it was today, we play with more confidence and at a much higher level."

Omaha returns to action on Friday, Sept. 26, opening Summit League action against IUPUI. The match is set for a 7 p.m. start at Sapp Fieldhouse, and links to live stats and live video will be available on OMavs.com.
