Schmale, Bailey Selected Academic All-Summit

OMAHA, Neb. -- Senior middle blocker Megan Schmale and senior libero Kimberly Bailey were named to the Summit League's Volleyball Academic All-League Team, the conference office announced Wednesday. The team was voted on by the institution's faculty athletics representatives and sports information directors.
Schmale and Bailey were among six student-athletes named to the team, which honors athletic and academic performances from this season. The award was the third straight for Schmale and the first for Bailey.
Schmale, an elementary education major, carries a 3.99 grade-point average. She is a member of the Summit League's Academic Honor Roll, Commissioner's List of Academic Excellence and Distinguished Scholars List, as well as the UNO Chancellor's and Dean's Lists.
A 2015 All-Summit selection, Schmale led the league in total blocks (159), block assists (146) and blocks per set (1.28) and was third in hitting percentage (.336) this season. She ranked 11th nationally for total blocks and 31st for blocks per set. In the last week of the regular season, Schmale broke Omaha's 27-year-old school record for career block assists, finishing her career with 460 assisted stops.
Bailey, who graduated with her bachelor's degree in journalism in May 2015 and is now pursuing her master's degree in communications at UNO, carries a 3.83 GPA. She is a member of the Summit League Commissioner's List of Academic Excellence, Academic Honor Roll and Distinguished Scholars List, as well as the UNO Chancellor's and Dean's Lists.
Bailey was named 2015 Summit League Defensive Player of the Year and earned All-Summit honors in her senior season. She was twice named Summit League Defensive Player of the Week and climbed to fifth on Omaha's career digs list in completing her Maverick career. Bailey ranked fourth in the conference for digs per set (4.48) and third for total digs (556), and her efforts helped Omaha rank as high as second nationally for team digs per set this year.
To be eligible for The Summit League Academic All-League team, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point average (GPA) of at least 3.30 (on a 4.0 scale), completed at least one full academic year at the current institution and participated in 50 percent of their team's competitions. The volleyball all-league team is made up of the six student-athletes receiving the most votes with all ties standing.
