Mavericks Picked Sixth in League Volleyball Poll

OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha volleyball team has been picked to finish sixth in the 2015 Summit League Preseason Coaches' Poll, the conference office announced Thursday.
Defending league champion Denver was selected as the league favorite after collecting seven first-place votes and 63 total points. IUPUI came in second, gathering 57 points with two first-place votes.
North Dakota State was third with 47 points, followed by Oral Roberts (42) and South Dakota (36). Omaha tied for sixth with 32 points to match Fort Wayne, while South Dakota State (12) and Western Illinois (11) rounded out the poll in eighth and ninth, respectively.
The Mavericks finished 14-19 (6-10) a year ago, which put them in seventh place in the final league standings. This season, UNO returns every starter from 2014 and 11 letterwinners. Head coach Rose Shires, the winningest coach in program history, enters her 26th year at the helm with a career record of 456-330.
Omaha will play its first season with full NCAA Division I postseason eligibility in 2015. The Mavericks host their annual Black/White Scrimmage this Saturday, Aug. 22 at 4 p.m. at Sapp Fieldhouse, and the event is free and open to the public. UNO officially opens the 2015 season at the UNLV Invitational, Aug. 28-29, with matches against Seton Hall, host UNLV and Central Arkansas in Las Vegas, Nev.
