Ghitis Captures Weekly League Honor

OMAHA, Neb. – Joseph Ghitis was named the Summit League Defensive Player of the Week for his Performance Sept. 18-24.
Ghitis earned his first weekly award of the season and seventh of his career. He collected his third shutout of the season and school-record 14th of his career in the 0-0 double-overtime draw at regionally-ranked Eastern Illinois. Ghitis also lowered his league-leading goals against average to 0.62 on the year.
Eastern Illinois' Mike Novotny joined Ghitis as Summit League Co-Defensive Player of the Week. Western Illinois' Drew Whalen joined Ghitis and Novotny as Summit League Offensive Player of the Week.
The Mavericks host crosstown rival Creighton on Tuesday, Sept. 26 at 7 p.m. The match is the first regular-season contest between the two schools at Caniglia Field.
