Omaha Picked Second in Preseason Summit League Poll

OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha men's soccer team was picked second in the 2018 Summit League Preseason Coaches' Poll, the league office announced on Tuesday.
Omaha received two first-place votes and 22 total points for second, while last season's regular-season champion Denver was the preseason league favorite with four first-place votes and 24 points overall.
Western Illinois finished third with 17 points, while Eastern Illinois claimed the fourth spot with 11 points. Oral Roberts (9) and Purdue Fort Wayne (7) rounded out the preseason league poll.
Omaha is coming off its first Summit League Tournament Championship and NCAA Tournament berth in 2017. The Mavericks finished 10-6-3 overall and 2-1-2 in the Summit, good for third place.
Junior defender Seth Rinderknecht and sophomore defender Stevie Siy were named to the Summit League Players to Watch list. Rinderknecht anchored the Omaha defense last season and is a two-time First Team All-Summit honoree, while Siy picked up All-Newcomer accolades last season.
Omaha opens the 2018 season with four-straight home matches. The Mavericks host UC Davis (Aug. 24) and NCAA Tournament participant Clemson (Aug. 26) before Missouri State (Aug. 31) and Utah Valley (Sept. 7) visit Caniglia Field.
