Mavericks Set For Exhibition against Northern Iowa

OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha women's soccer team begins its 20th season on Monday, Aug. 6 with an exhibition game against Northern Iowa.  Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. in Ankeny, Iowa.
Getting to Know the Mavericks
Omaha was 6-10-1 last season and finished the Summit League regular season with a record of 3-4, putting it in fifth place.
The Mavericks return 14 letterwinners including eight starters. Â Notable players returning for Omaha are captain and top returning scorer Emily Romero. Â Romero appeared in 16 games with 14 starts while scoring three goals and two assists. Â Cydney Skinner added two goals and an assist while Marin Dregelid tacked on a pair of goals.
Erinoelle Clifton, Susie Dineen and Taylor Gelling return to anchor the Omaha defense. Â The trio combined to start 29 games last season. Â Also returning for the Mavericks is goalkeeper Erin Bunker. Â Bunker posted a 3-5-1 record with a 2.12 goals-against average with a shutout and 37 saves.
Scouting the Panthers
Last season, Northern Iowa finished with a mark of 14-5-1, including a record of 4-3-0 in Missouri Valley play. Â The Panthers advanced to the championship game of the Valley tournament before falling 1-0 to Missouri State.
UNI set school records in 2017 in victories (14), goals (34), assists (29), shots (309) and shutouts (11). Â As a junior last season, Brynell Yount had a team-high 24 points on 11 goals and two assists. Â Sydney Hayden finished third on the team with 14 points on four goals and six assists. Â Goalkeeper Jami Reichenberger started every game and posted a 0.72 goals-against average with 11 shutouts and 64 saves.
History
The Omaha and Northern Iowa series is tied 2-2-1 all-time. Â Since transitioning to Division I, UNO and UNI are deadlocked 1-1-1 with the Panthers winning the last match at Caniglia Field, 2-0.

Omaha will host its intra-squad scrimmage on August 11 before its regular season opener on August 16 at Memphis.
