Ledesma Named Summit League Defensive Player of the Week

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Senior Gonzalo Ledesma earned his first Summit League Defensive Player of the Week honor, the league announced on Monday.
Ledesma scored the game-winning goal in the 73rd minute in Omaha's 1-0 victory over Purdue Fort Wayne on Saturday afternoon at Caniglia Field.
"Gonzalo is an Omaha success story and his story is so much more than the game-winning goal," said head coach Bob Warming. "He has gone from not seeing any minutes his first year, 230 minutes his second year and is now playing in all 10 matches for us this season. He is getting it done in the classroom, on the field and is a tremendous teammate."
The South Sioux City, Neb., native played 47 minutes and is a member of the Maverick defense that stifled the Purdue Fort Wayne offense in the victory, limiting the Mastodons to one shot attempt in the entire match.
The Mavericks return to Summit League play this weekend as Omaha ventures to Charleston, Ill., to take on Eastern Illinois on Saturday, Oct. 19 at 12 p.m.
