Mavericks Win Home Opener vs. Pratt CC

OMAHA, Neb. - After four straight road matches to begin the season, the Mavericks had their first home bout of the season today and bested Pratt CC 6-1. Omaha now improves to 2-3 on the season.
"It's nice to start off the home match schedule with a win," remarked Head Coach Hunter Clark. "Everyone on the team got to play today so it was a complete team win."
Omaha opened the day with a doubles victory as Mikel Garmendia and Bryan Kuntz cruised to a 6-3 victory over Alexi Khamrotau and Thiofhi Tshivhase.
The Mavericks were on their way to sweeping the doubles round as Mikhail Korkunov and Pavan Uppu were leading their opponents 6-5, but Kenta Kawada and Kenneth Rabinad Vila came back and took the tiebreaker 7-6 (7-5). Fortunately, Jacob Dubas and Caleb Peterson were able to secure the doubles point after a back and forth match that ended with them taking the tiebreaker in a 7-6 (8-6) victory.
Korkunov opened up singles play with a commanding 6-1, 6-2 win, before Kuntz racked up his second win of the day with a 6-4, 6-1 victory. With Omaha up 3-0, Dubas held off Tshivhase to take his bout 6-2, 6-4 and give Omaha the win at 4-0. From there, the Mavericks picked up two more wins, with Garmendia rebounding from a first set loss (4-6) and dominating the next two 6-1, 6-2, before Uppu capped off the day by holding off Sixto Golobart in a 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) win.

Omaha is back on the road later this week when they head down to Missouri to face Saint Louis on Saturday at 11 a.m.
