Mavs Finish Third at National Duals
CLEVELAND- Fourth-ranked Nebraska-Omaha topped No. 8 Findlay 30-15 to finish third in the NWCA National Dual Tournament Sunday afternoon. In the consolation semifinals the Mavs defeated Ashland 26-15 to advance to the third-place match. Heavyweight Les Sigman and Nate Oviatt, 184 lbs, each earned pins in the third-place match to lead the Mavs to the victory and their sixth top-three finish in the last eight years at the national duals.
Sigman, No. 1 in his weight class, pinned Findlay's Christian Knight at 2:51 for his second of the tournament and Oviate defeated sixth-ranked Kris Klapacz six minutes into the match to help lead the Mavs. In the earlier match Patrick Allibone (149) and fourth-ranked J.D. Naig (165) each earned pins while Oviatt earned a 9-0 major decision and Ben Strandberg (197) had a 18-9 major decision over No. 5 Ryan Kirst.
The Mavs (4-1) will compete in the Northwestern (Iowa) Open next Saturday with action begining at 10 a.m.
