Mavericks Set For Minnesota
Weekly Release
OMAHA, Neb. - The Mavericks are heading to Minnesota this weekend with a pair of duals set for Jan. 25-26.
UNO's first stop will be in Minneapolis, Minn., Friday, to take on NCAA III defending national champion, Augsburg, before opening North Central Conference action against former UNO All-American Steve Costanzo and his St. Cloud State University Huskies on Saturday.

The Mavericks held on to the No. 2 spot in the latest National Wrestling Coaches Association poll, thanks to a strong performance at last weeks Glen Brand Open.
UNO has seven ranked individuals led by defending national champions Todd Meneely, who is ranked No. 1 at 149 pounds, and Cody Garcia, No. 1 at 125. Aaron Denson moved up to third at 165 this week, while Ross Taplin and Brent Pankoke each made their debuts in the newly released NWCA individual rankings. Taplin, No. 2 at 174 pounds, Pankoke, No. 3 at 184. Jacob Marrs moved up one spot this week and is ranked second at 197 pounds, while Tony Lewis has been ranked eighth at 285.
The Coach
Mike Denney is in his 29th season as the Maverick head coach. The Dakota Wesleyan graduate has a 268-106-5 career mark. He has twice been named the NCAA II National Coach of the Year and led the 1991, 2004, 2005, and 2006 Mavericks to NCAA II national championships.
Last Week
The Mavericks captured four individual titles Saturday during the Glen Brand Open at the Lee & Helene Sapp Fieldhouse, dominating a field that included more than 120 wrestlers from 13 different schools.
Sim Bribieseca, Jacob Marrs, Brent Pankoke and Ross Taplin all captured titles in their weight classes, while four other Mavs placed in the meet. Bryce Boehm finished fifth at 285 pounds, Marcus Hilario came in sixth at 157 pounds, Mario Morgan was third at 133 pounds, and Matt Rein was able to take home fifth at 125 pounds.
On Deck
The Mavericks will continue to rack up the frequent flier miles this weekend with a pair of road duals scheduled for Feb. 1-2. UNO will head down to Edmond, Okla., to take on the NCAA II defending national champions and No. 3 ranked Central Oklahoma, before heading out to Kearney, Neb., the following day, to take on in-state rival UNK, ranked No. 4 in the latest NWCA poll.
