Mavericks Earn First Ranking in West Region

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Omaha men's soccer team is ranked for the first time in its brief history. The Mavericks are ninth in the first Division I West Region poll put out by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
“It's rewarding to see that the committee recognizes the strength of our schedule and how well we competed,” said head coach Jason Mims. “We had control of good portions of both games and instead of two overtime losses, we could have come away with one or even two wins.
“It's nice to see that our hard work didn't go unnoticed.”
UNO lost to Santa Clara, 3-2 in double overtime, last Friday and was upended by Stanford 2-1 in overtime in a rain-delayed game on Sunday.
The Mavericks are one of two Summit League teams in the west region top 10. Denver is top ranked after a pair of wins last weekend.
UNO finishes off a four-game home stand to open the season when it hosts Cincinnati on Friday, Sept. 5 at 7:30 p.m. and Belmont on Sunday, Sept. 7 at 2 p.m.
