Men's Soccer Plays to 0-0 Tie in Intrasquad Scrimmage

OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha men's soccer team played to a 0-0 tie in a modified intrasquad scrimmage Sat at Caniglia Field. Teams played two 30-minute halves instead of the usual 45, and a number of Maverick alumni helped to fill out the roster. Following two scoreless halves, the black team won in a shootout, 3-2.
The white team dominated the stat sheet by outshooting the black team, 14-5. Redshirt freshman Noor Hamadi led the black side with two shots on goal in the first half. Junior Mark Moulton and senior transfer Kevin Correa each had one shot for the white team.
In the second half, the white team stepped up the offensive pressure, but could not find the back of the net. Moulton hit the post at the 48:04 mark of the game, but the shot bounced wide to keep the game scoreless. The black team's Fazlo Alihodzic had a chance to win the game in regulation, but his shot was saved by Josh Christensen with under three minutes left in the game.
Following a scoreless regulation, the two sides used a shootout to decide a victor. Logan Mendez converted the first penalty kick of the shootout to put the black team up, 1-0. The two sides exchanged missed shots before Alihodzic tied things, 1-1. Hamadi and Correa exchanged makes, before senior Parker Victor gave the black team the shootout victory, 3-2.
The Mavericks return to exhibition action on Saturday, Aug. 22 against 10th-rated Washington in the South Omaha Classic.
