Kametani Named Senior CLASS Award Candidate
Sep 30, 2021 | Men's Soccer
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior or graduate-student and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character, and competition.
Kametani is a leader on and off the field for the Mavericks. On the field, Kametani leads Omaha with 13 shots this season. He was also the team's leading shot taker last season with 36. Kametani netted nine goals in the spring to tie the single-season scoring record. He added one assist in the action. His nine goals led the Summit League.
The Kashima, Japan native was tabbed the Summit League Newcomer of the Year, First Team All-Summit, All Newcomer, First Team All-Region, and Third Team All-American for his efforts in the 2021 spring season.
In addition to his success on the field, Kametani has excelled in the classroom. He boasts a 3.9 GPA as a multidisciplinary studies major and was named to the Summit League Academic Honor Roll.
Kametani has also participated in several service projects with the Omaha men's soccer team. Most recently, Kametani and his fellow Mavericks hosted local children for a field day. Those involved played games on the field and worked on their soccer skills.
The candidates will be narrowed down to 10 finalists later this season and placed on an official ballot. The ballots will then be distributed through a nationwide voting system for media, coaches, and fans. One candidate will be chosen who best exemplifies excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character, and competition.
The Senior CLASS Award winners will be announced during the 2021 NCAA Men's and Women's College Cup® championships in December.
