Mavs Open League Play Against Defending Champs

The Mavericks begin Summit League play on Saturday when defending Summit League champion Western Illinois visits for a 4 p.m. match at the UNO Soccer Field. Live stats will be available at OMavs.com.
The Teams
Omaha (1-5-1) is coming off a 1-1 draw against Kansas City on Tuesday at the UNO Soccer Field. Christian Garcia scored the game-tying goal with 8:58 remaining for his first career goal. The Mavericks peppered UMKC with a school-record 22 shots in the match. Chava Garcia leads the Mavs with five points on one goal and three assists this season. Vance Rookwood has a team-best two goals for four points. Both have earned Summit League Offensive Player of the Week honors. Senior goalie Matt Grosey has one Summit League Defensive Player of the Week award this season.
Western Illinois, the defending Summit League tournament champion, is off to a 1-6 start. The Leathernecks were picked second in the league's preseason poll behind Denver. WIU has won three of the last four conference tournaments. The Leathernecks have been outscored 14-6 this season. Husref Jupic has three goals for WIU, while Diego Lopez has two.
