Grosey Signs Pro Contract With Kitsap Pumas

OMAHA, Neb. - Former UNO men's soccer goalie Matt Grosey has signed a professional contract with the Kitsap Pumas of the Premier Development League, the club has announced.
Grosey served as the Mavs' team captain in 2013 and played every minute in goal, producing 50 saves, a .704 save percentage and 1.28 goals against average. Grosey twice earned Summit League Defensive Player of the Week honors and was an All-Summit League Second Team selection following his junior season. Last fall, Grosey allowed just five goals in six conference games to rank second in the league in fewest goals allowed. He posted four clean sheets and recorded a school-record six wins in net. Grosey finished with seven career shutouts.
“Matt is a very strong athletic goalkeeper who played at a very good, competitive Division I school,” Pumas head coach Andrew Chapman told the team's website. “He gets down quick for shots and can move across his line very well.”
Grosey is the first ever UNO men's soccer player to sign a professional contract since the program originated in 2011. Located in Bremerton, Wash., Kitsap won the PDL championship in 2011.
"First of all, we are so happy for Matt as it shows if you work hard enough you can be successful and achieve your goals," Head Coach Jason Mims said. "Matt is the hardest working player in our program and I am thankful that he believed in us two years ago. In the short history of our program, we have worked extremely hard on setting up a professional environment for our players. Our guys live in the best dorms in the country. They eat in practically a gourmet café. The Hamilton Academic Excellence Center is the nicest study area I have seen in college athletics. Caniglia Field is becoming one of the finest college soccer facilities around. We have scheduled many great games for our guys including against top flight professional teams. To see one of our very first players that has come through the program sign a professional contract is extremely rewarding and would not be possible without the support and hard work from Trev Alberts and his staff."
