Warming Names 2020-21 Captains for Men's Soccer

OMAHA, Neb. – Head men's soccer coach Bob Warming has announced the 2020-21 team captains. Seniors Stevie Siy, Nil Ayats, and Ed Gordon will don the captain's armband and lead the Mavericks this season.

"Additionally, they are exceptional students with huge work ethics and great people to be around in any setting. They are the ultimate teammates, and they put the team before themselves while relentlessly improving and putting in the extra work to make them more valuable to the team. They are driven towards helping Omaha win championships."

Siy enters his fourth season with the Mavericks with a growing list of accolades. The senior defender was named to the 2017 Summit League All-Newcomer Team, the Summit League Academic Honor Roll in 2017, 2018, and 2019, the Summit League Commissioner's List of Academic Excellence in 2018 and 2019, the 2018 and 2019 Summit League All-Academic Team, and the 2018 and 2019 CoSIDA Academic All-District Team. Siy also has one Summit League weekly honor under his belt.

Over his tenure, Siy has started 43 matches and appeared in 47 for Omaha. He has three career assists and taken 11 shots. As a core member of UNO's defense, Siy has helped the Mavericks post 13 shutouts over his first three seasons.

Ayats kicks off his third season as a Maverick. The senior midfielder was previously named to the Summit League All-Tournament Team in 2018 and is a two-time member of the Summit League Academic Honor Roll (2018 & 2019).

In two seasons with Omaha, Ayats has made 12 starts and appeared in 16 matches. Ayats missed most of the 2019 season after suffering an injury. He has 18 career shots and taken five total shots on goal for the Mavericks. Ayats has logged a total of 890 minutes on the pitch prior to his senior year.

As a four-year member, Gordon rounds out the captain selections this season. He has a collection of academic awards having been named to the 2018 and 2019 CoSIDA Academic All-District Team and Summit League All-Academic Team. He is a three-time Summit League Academic Honor Roll award winner and was named to the Summit League Commissioner's List of Academic Excellence in 2018-19.

The senior midfielder has appeared in 50 matches and made 27 starts for Omaha. Gordon has tallied two assists over his career, including one last season in UNO's win over Purdue Fort Wayne. Gordon has taken nine career shots with five of those coming in 2019 action. All three of his shots on goal were taken last year, which includes a career-best two shots vs. UNLV.
Siy, Ayats, and Gordon look to lead the Mavericks on the pitch this season. Regular season action is set to kickoff at Kansas City on Feb. 22 at 1 p.m.
