OMAHA, Neb. – Omaha men's soccer has announced the addition of a match to this season's schedule. The Mavericks will take a trip to Kansas City, Missouri to play Sporting KC II on Sept. 17 at 3 p.m. at Swope Soccer Village. The match will be closed to the public.
The match between Omaha and Sporting KC marks the first time an NCAA program has played an MLS team during regular season action.
In the MLS Western Conference, Sporting KC sits second in the standings with an 11-4-6 record. The team ranks third overall in the league.
The Mavericks were tabbed the Summit League preseason favorite earlier this week after their historic run in the NCAA Tournament last season. Omaha returns 10 of 11 starters, including Summit League Newcomer of the Year Hugo Kametani and Summit League Defensive Player of the Year Fitzroy Cummings.
Omaha kicks off 2021 action this week at Bradley on Thursday, Aug. 26 and at home vs. Tulsa on Sunday, Aug. 29. Both kickoffs are set for 7 p.m.
