Italo Jenkins Named Summit League Offensive Player of the Year; 11 Mavs Earn Summit League Soccer Honors

SIOUX FALLS – Omaha men's soccer forward Italo Jenkins was named the Summit League Offensive Player of the Year on Thursday afternoon, highlighting an impressive showing for the Mavericks in the Summit League postseason awards. Omaha had 11 student-athletes earn 13 postseason honors, the conference announced Thursday. The Mavericks enter the postseason with a 9-4-3 record, their most wins since a 10-win season in 2017.

Jenkins led the conference in goals (five), points (11) and shots on goal (nine) during league play. He is the second Omaha player to earn the award, joining Fazlo Ailbahozi in 2016. Jenkins also broke the school's single-season record for goals, becoming the first player in program history to reach double-digit goals.

Jenkins earned First Team All-Summit League honors alongside senior captain and midfielder Brett Perkins (Gretna, Neb.). Perkins ranked second on the team in goals (seven) and points (16). In conference play, Perkins tied for third in goals (three) and points (seven) while tying for seventh in shots on goal (five).

Junior defender Simon Guardiero (Guelph, Ontario, Canada) and Maguire Perkins (Gretna, Neb.) earned Second Team All-Summit League honors. Guardiero competed in 15 matches and scored his first goal as a Maverick on Aug. 20 against Eastern Illinois. Maguire Perkins recorded six goals, 13 points and three game-winning goals, tying Jenkins for the team lead, across 16 matches.

Six Mavericks earned honorable mention recognition: junior midfielder Amari Fowlkes (Carmel, Ind.), junior forward Derek Johnson (Gig Harbor, Wash.), senior goalkeeper Kamy Ndione (Osaka, Japan), sophomore midfielder Brady Robins (Shawnee, Kan.), sophomore midfielder Jeppe Runge (Odense, Denmark) and junior forward Mikey Stukenholtz (Gretna, Neb.).

Fowlkes and senior defender Lucas Foreman (Fremont, Neb.) were named to the Summit League All-Newcomer Team.

Robins played 1,298 minutes, trailing only goalkeeper Kamy Ndione for the team lead. Stukenholtz and Fowlkes led the Mavericks in assists (four), while Runge led the team in shots (29). Foreman ranked third on the team in minutes played (1,198).

Ndione recorded 52 saves in 16 games, posting a .722 save percentage, a 1.27 goals-against average and five shutouts. Twenty-two of his 52 saves came in conference play, tied for the most in the Summit League.

The Mavericks return to action Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Summit League Semifinals, where they will face either UMass or Delaware in Kansas City.
